By Gloria Ogbonna

In the aftermath of Tuesday's explosion in Bodija, Ibadan, new details have emerged, shedding light on the individuals involved and the efforts to address the tragic incident.

The Landlords Association of Adeyi Street revealed that the twin duplex at the epicenter of the explosion was rented by Mahmoud Camara, an individual who reportedly used the identity of a commercial motorcyclist (Okada rider) named Sawani Yusuf to secure the property. The explosion, which has claimed five lives, led to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police declaring Yusuf and another occupant of the building wanted.

It was disclosed that three occupants were residing in the apartment before the explosion, with two of them identified as Malians and the third as a Nigerian. The register of tenants in the estate indicated that the duplex was rented by Camara.

The Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) disassociated itself from the mining company allegedly linked to the explosion, stating that the company is not a member of MAN. The association's Board of Trustees and National Executive Council have vowed to uncover those responsible for the incident.

While rescue operations continue, some residents living far from the blast site are leaving the area due to the traumatic experience. Houses in proximity to the epicenter suffered significant damage, with shattered windows and doors. The Oyo State government, through the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Fatai Owoseni, reported an increase in the casualty figure to five.

The Oyo State House of Assembly disclosed that Sawani Yusuf is the alleged foreigner behind the explosion, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to bring all connected to the incident to justice. Lawmakers emphasized the need for thorough investigations and the enforcement of safety precautions, particularly in handling explosives.

As the community grapples with the aftermath, concerns have been raised about illegal mining activities, and the Miners Association calls for a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the true cause of the explosion.
