Oyo State Governor Refuses Payment to Sacked LG Chairmen Until Supreme Court's Verdict"

By Gloria Ogbonna

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, firmly declared his stance against paying the dismissed local government chairmen until a directive from the Supreme Court mandates him to do so.

Following the garnishee order obtained by the removed chairmen from an Abuja Federal High Court, which directed the attachment of state government accounts, Makinde emphasized that his government would not comply until all legal options were exhausted.

The governor's decision stems from the Supreme Court's annulment of the chairmen's sack, declaring it unconstitutional. Although a substantial portion of the awarded judgment has been paid, Makinde firmly stated that he wouldn't release further funds to what he considers "wrong hands" until instructed by the Supreme Court.

Moreover, in response to objections regarding the purported conversion of Agodi forest into a housing estate, Makinde defended the decision, asserting its potential economic and security benefits for the state.

Makinde's unwavering commitment to awaiting the Supreme Court's directive before releasing funds to the dismissed chairmen highlights his adherence to legal processes and constitutional governance in Oyo State.
