The Ogun State Police Command successfully rescued a pregnant woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, following her abduction in Ijebu-Igbo, located within the Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, Omolola Odutola, confirmed this development to PUNCH Metro on Thursday, detailing the harrowing incident. According to Odutola, a group of armed assailants had ambushed the couple in front of their residence, abducting the pregnant woman while leaving her husband behind during the distressing ordeal, which occurred at approximately 11:05 pm on Christmas Day.

Describing the swift police response, Odutola reported that upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Ijebu-Igbo immediately dispatched a team to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers found the husband, who recounted the sudden attack where armed men emerged from nearby bushes and kidnapped his wife as they were entering their home.

A coordinated effort involving the police, the So-Safe Corps, Amotekun operatives, and others was swiftly mobilized to conduct a search operation throughout the surrounding bush area.

After extensive efforts, the rescue team successfully located and rescued the abducted woman the following day, ensuring she received necessary medical attention at a nearby hospital.

Expressing concern over the emerging trend of kidnappings penetrating rural areas, Odutola emphasized the police's commitment to intensifying security measures. She urged local communities to establish internal security structures, emphasizing the importance of alerting security agencies about suspicious activities and unknown individuals within their vicinity.

Assuring the public of the Ogun State Police Command's determination to combat criminal activities, Odutola reiterated the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu's resolve to eliminate criminal elements within the state boundaries.

She encouraged the collaboration of traditional rulers and community leaders in reinforcing security within their localities, pledging the police force's continuous efforts to eradicate criminal activities from the region.
