Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has extended heartfelt congratulations to The PUNCH for its outstanding achievements at the Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA), where the newspaper secured significant accolades.
Expressing his commendation through the State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, in a letter addressed to Joseph Adeyeye, the Managing Director of Punch Nigeria Limited, the governor hailed The PUNCH's win as the "Newspaper of The Year" at the NMMA. Sanwo-Olu also applauded Adedayo Oketola, the Editor of The PUNCH, for clinching the prestigious "Editor of the Year" award, along with other commendable recognitions received by the paper.
Omotoso conveyed the governor's message, acknowledging The PUNCH's exceptional performance as a testament to the newspaper's hard work, resilience, and commitment to professional standards, aligning with the values upheld by the Sanwo-Olu administration.
Sanwo-Olu attributed these remarkable accomplishments to the wealth of experience, scholarly dedication, and unwavering commitment demonstrated by PUNCH reporters and production crew.
On behalf of the Lagos State Executive Council and the people of Lagos, the governor extended warm congratulations to The PUNCH for these remarkable achievements, expressing wishes for further successes in the future.
At the 31st NMMA ceremony hosted at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, The PUNCH triumphed over other leading newspapers, including The Nation, The Guardian, and Daily Trust, securing the prestigious Babatunde Jose Prize for Newspaper of the Year. Additionally, The PUNCH Editor, Adedayo Oketola, emerged victorious, receiving the esteemed Dele Giwa Prize for Editor of the Year, surpassing notable contenders from Daily Trust and Nigeria Tribune.
Having earned 11 awards out of 32 nominations, The PUNCH solidified its excellence and commitment to journalism at the NMMA, underscoring its dedication to delivering exceptional news coverage and maintaining professional standards.
