Chief of Defence Staff Advocates for Higher Pay for Soldiers

By Gloria Ogbonna

In a recent revelation, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa disclosed the remuneration structure within the military, indicating that soldiers receive a monthly salary below N50,000, while officers, irrespective of rank, are compensated at a daily rate of N1,200 as operational allowance.

During an interview on Channels TV, General Musa emphasized the disparity in allowances between officers and soldiers, highlighting that both himself, as a General, and ordinary soldiers receive the same daily operational allowance.

He underscored the necessity for a salary that commensurates with the work soldiers undertake, expressing concern that the current compensation is inadequate given the challenges faced in the line of duty.

Citing the financial constraints faced by soldiers, General Musa appealed for an increase in their salaries, emphasizing the importance of fair and deserving remuneration to boost morale and encourage greater dedication to their duties.
