Lagos traffic law: Police impound 105
motorcycles, arrests 98 suspects

The combined team of the officials of Rapid
Response Squad (RRS) and of the Lagos
State Task Force on Environment and Special
Offence Unit has impounded 105 motorcycles
popularly called Okada.
The team, led by ACP Olatunji Disu and Supol
Olubokola Abe, also arrested 98 people for
flouting the state traffic laws.
The motorcycles and their riders as well as
street traders were arrested during a special
operation embarked upon by the law
enforcement agencies for plying restricted
areas and hawking on major highways.

The roads and areas included Lagos-
Abeokuta Expressway, Agege Motor Road,
Ikorodu Road, Orile Iganmu, Costain, Mile 2,
Lagos Island and Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
It was learnt that some motorcyclists
abandoned their motorcycles when the saw
the police to evade arrest.
Disu and Abe said the operation would be a
continuous exercise by the law enforcement
agencies to ensure that road users fully
complied with the traffic laws.
According to Disu, preliminary investigations
by the police have revealed that robbery and
other nefarious activities on the highways are
aided by the use of motorcycles.

He said: “This operation is to bring sanity to
our highways. This will prevent intraffic
robbery and criminal attacks on motorists and
commuters, which have become a menace in
the metropolis.”
Disu noted that the law enforcement agencies
would enforce the total restriction of
motorcycles on all the unapproved routes and
expressways in the state
