Shehu Sani to political leaders: Declare your assets publicly

Irked by the non-compliance of political leaders to
publicly declare their assets, Senator Shehu Sani
representing Kaduna Central at the National
Assembly has warned that the change agenda of
the present administration may not realize the
desired result.
Sani charged Nigerians to be vigilant on the
way they were being governed, saying, “One
man alone cannot change Nigeria, as it is a
collective responsibility of every Nigerian
because the way and manner President
Mohammadu Buhari and the Vice President,
Professor Osibanjo declared their assets,
other political leaders should emulate them
and do same, if not, the President and his
vice will be fighting
the anti-corruption war alone.”
Baring his mind when members of the Nigeria
Union of Journalists, Kaduna paid him Sallah
visit, Senator Shehu Sani said that Nigerians
must insist that political leaders disclose
what they have, adding that Nigerians should
form transparent vigilante groups to help the
Code of Conduct Bureau verify claims made
by their leaders.
He lamented, “It is an irony in a country like
Nigeria where people parade their certificates,
claiming they made first class in their first
degree and other institutions they attended
and how they want you to know how brilliant
they were when they were in school but they
don’t want you to know what they kept in their
bank accounts when they assumed public
offices.
“It is necessary for those governors and even
members of the National Assembly not to
claim to be followers of Buhari but should
emulate him. They should not be ashamed to
declare publicly what they have.”
He called on Nigerians to support the change
agenda of the present administration and also
put heads together to strengthen the unity of
the country.
