Read how a 46-year-old man appears in court for assaulting community leader



A 46-year-old man, David Ogbeide, has been
arraigned before an Egor Magistrates’ Court, Edo
State, for allegedly assaulting a community leader,
one Egbon Vincent, with a machete.
According to reports, the accused committed
the offence on 24 September at about 3p.m.
at 6, Evbuotubu Road in Benin.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Ledee N-Ueh
reportedly told the court that the accused hit
Vincent on the head with a machete following
a disagreement at their community meeting.
N-Ueh further said the accused was arraigned
on a three-count charge of assault and
causing a grievous bodily harm, noting that
the offence contravened Sections 355 and 86
of the Criminal Code Cap 48, Laws of the
defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976 now
applicable to Edo.
The accused, however, reportedly pleaded not
guilty to the charges leveled against him.
Mrs Igho Braimoh, the Court Magistrate in her
ruling, granted bail to the accused in the sum
of N250, 000 and one surety in like sum,
adjourning the case till 4 November for
mention.
